Activities...

The House at Log Cabins is centrally located, close to many North Shore treasures, and offers myriad activities. It’s easy. The only difficulty is choosing which one you’ll do at any moment!

Surfing: Log Cabins, a fun wave from the 4-6 foot range is right out front. Just down the beach are famous breaks like Waimea Bay, Banzai and Backdoor Pipeline, Rocky Point and Sunset Beach. Other less crowded surf spots—still great by any standards—are also within a short walk or drive. "Rockpiles" left and right firing 100 yards from the house's front yard.

Snorkeling: When the surf is not up you can explore the rocks and reef out front of Log Cabins, but for better scenery try Shark’s Cove. Just west of the house, Shark’s Cove has numerous caves, tons of colorful tropical fish, and many sea turtles. Don’t let the name scare you off, as it’s a very safe snorkeling spot when the surf is calm.

Diving and fishing: SCUBA boats and rental shops are plentiful in Haleiwa for those who are certified or want to become certified. Fishing boats also leave from Haleiwa. Surf fishing (fishing off the beach) is very popular just a short walk down the beach from Log Cabins at Ke Iki. Shark's Cove awaits full of sea turtles, tropical fish, and many caves for snorkeling & SCUBA.

Golf, Tennis, Horseback riding: The Turtle Bay Hilton offers 27 championship holes of golf at The Links at Kuilima, 10 tennis courts, and horseback riding tours. Call 808.293.8811 for more information.  Public tennis courts are a 5-minute walk from the house.

The Polynesian Cultural Center educates its visitors on the history of Polynesia and its peoples who populated Hawaii. If you can avoid the tour bus crowds it is a great stop if you want to bring a little knowledge home along with your suntan.

Pu'u o Mahuka Heiau State Monument ("The Heiau", pronounced Hey-ee-ouw),A National Historic Landmark, it has great views of Waimea Bay below and Kaena Point to the west. Please do not remove any rocks or climb upon the structure. Off Pupukea Homestead Road (Highway 835) from Kam Highway 83.

An offering tower at the Heiau.

The Parks at Waimea, to mauka (mountain side) of the bridge at Waimea Bay, is a great place to view traditional Hawaiian structures, has great hiking trails and kayaking along the Waimea River. It also boasts wonderful native vegetation.

Kayakers explore the Waimea River Valley.

Waimea Bay is another great spot for sunbathing, snokeling or rock jumping in the summer, and watching or joining the bodyboarders and surfers as they challenge the famous surf of the North Shore.

A calm summer day at Waimea.

Bike/run/walk:  The bike path is a new addition to the North Shore, completed in 1999. It runs separate from Kam Highway along the beach and past the ocean front homes. A good portion of the path is shaded by trees that arch above it, providing a cool place to walk, jog, Rollerblade or bike.  If you have your own mountain bikes and ask around, you can find excellent single-track trails in the nearby Pupukea and Sunset hills areas.
